“The Photographic Nude 2012”, the second annual exhibit celebrating the nude in fine art photography,
explores the artistic and creative view of the body and it’s form, welcoming the timeless elegance of a classical study,
while also encouraging alternative and provocative styles. This exhibit is dedicated to the creative spirit of Ruth Bernhard

LightBox is pleased to have talented Portland based photographer and educator Heidi Kirkpatrick as juror for this exhibit.
LightBox Photographic Gallery created ”The Photographic Nude’ exhibit as a result of two influences. The first is the “Au Naturel” exhibit at Clatsop Community College in Astoria, Oregon. “Au Naturel”, in it’s sixth year, has established itself as one of the finest exhibits of the artistic nude, consisting solely of painting and drawing. LightBox wished to develop a show for the artistic nude in the medium of photography, highlighting the importance of the genre in the photographic arts.
LightBox was also influenced by the biographical film “Illuminations”, documenting the life and photographic works of Ruth Bernhard. Robert Burrill shared his film with LightBox in 2010. The works of Ruth Bernhard in the genre of the photographic nude and her amazing creative spirit influenced LightBox to establish this show and dedicate it in her honor.
LightBox has established “The Photographic Nude” as an annual event at the gallery.
