The Photographic Nude 2013

The Photographic Nude 2013 is a juried exhibit exploring the artistic and creative view of the body and it’s form. We celebrate the nude in photography by embracing a variety of styles, the timeless elegance of a classical study as well as alternative and provocative styles, with studies of the whole or partial human form, nude or semi-nude.

Juror’s Statement

I wish to thank everyone who entered the “The Photograpic Nude”. I am honoured to have been asked to Juror this event. It was both a joy and a challenge to judge the submissions. There was a number of amazing images which made it very difficult to narrow down the finalists. Every juror has their own unique eye when it comes to viewing submissions. I personally try to keep it simple. I look for the usual suspects such as lighting, composition, form, curves, lines, technical excellence, etc… However, the most important thing for me is my first impression of the image. How does the image make me feel? Does it convey some kind of emotion or story? These are the same criteria I follow when selecting images from submissions to publish in Adore Noir magazine.

The image is technically remarkable and it clearly evokes a sense of defeat and vulnerability from the posture of the subject right down to the grittiness of the walls and floor. It portrays the story very well and I can readily identify with the subject and the scenario.
