John Ritchie • Inside Lives
Initially inspired by the challenge of COVID isolation, I began photographing people inside their
homes to tell stories. My volunteer models and I evaluate their homes from the outside and together
we determine stages and seed ideas. We elaborate these ideas to spin vignettes that
blur the boundary between reality and fantasy. I photograph from outside the building at night,
separated from my subjects by glass, while they enact a private drama within. These scenes
portray imaginary lives lived both inside our homes and within our heads.
John has been creating photographic art for 15 years. He is currently fascinated by the combination
of moodiness at night and interesting activities of people. He has exhibited his work nationwide.
