The ancient Taoists knew that impermanence is the way of nature, the way of the universe. Buddhist’s teach that everything is impermanent, even us. Especially us! How do we translate that abstract notion into a visual statement without being cliche or trite? How do we make photographs of the concept that go beyond the expected? I would like to see photographs that ask more questions than they answer. I hope you accept this challenge!

-Douglas Beasley

“I once felt sadness at the impermanence and constant change of all worldly things. But I finally realized that there is not really anything sad in it at all. Impermanence is, rather, a manifestation of life itself. A flower perpetually in bloom would be devoid of beauty. The knowledge of the shortness of a flowers life, of its fate to soon wither and die, is what makes a flower beautiful.”

– Kaji Higashiyama, Japanese landscape painter
