FRITZ LIEDTKE BIO
ARTIST BIO
Fritz Liedtke has been photographing since he was a child. At 13, with his father and their turquoise Datsun B210, he chronicled their travels across the United States with his Kodak 110 Instamatic; they covered 35 states in 31 days, washing suburban cars along the way to pay for their travels. Twenty-five years later, he continues to explore the world, camera in hand.
In the intervening years, he has acquired a BFA in photography; won awards, grants, and residencies for his work; shown in galleries and museums; written articles for art and photography publications; lectured and taught on photography and the life of the artist; balanced both commercial and fine art practices; and traveled the world.
His work ranges from series on adolescence (Welcome to Wonderland and Quite Normal) and eating disorders (Skeleton in the Closet), to personal observation and exploration (Astra Velum and Cimetiere), documentary (Beneficio de Cafe and Holy Communion), and portrait work in alternative processes (tintypes, photogravure, platinum, books, and encaustics).
