Thom Dickerson

Thom Dickerson has had his career span many different jobs. His first work experience was being a photographer. This began as a photo editor with the high school yearbook. Then getting part time work as a film stripper with a press shop. This was an experience that has paid off with immense dividends, by gaining the skill set of fine art output and color control. Thom now has gained the ability to produce dynamic artwork.

While in the US Navy as a Naval Photographer, working with the usual “grip and grin” photos as well as formal studio portraiture, learning the nuts and bolts of processing, printing both black & white and color. Thom gained further technical expertise in graphic arts by getting an education in color, lighting, and many types of photographic applications including medical and aerial photography. He and his wife have their SSI Advanced Open Water Certificates. The photos on the left are some my underwater work.

Changing direction after getting out of the Navy going to college for 5 years as Zoology major and Music minor and finding a medical or music career was not where he wanted to go. He quit school and took a hiatus. Later found a flexible job working as a US Letter Carrier and freelancing part time in photography and graphic illustration. During that time he returned to college and received his AS degree in Graphic Communications.

With all these acquired skills his CV includes 2 shows (1992, 1995) at the Spectrum Gallery, Fresno CA. 2 shows at the Blue Scorcher Summer 08 Pacific & Caribbean Underwater Photography & Summer 09 The Man Who Loved Engines ~ Racing, Flying and Sailing on Airships. And a show at the Arts & Cultural Exchange Fall 09 featuring a didactic historical exhibit, The Howden Detchment ~ US Crew training on rigid airships in the UK.
