For more than fifty years I have enjoyed making portraits of strangers in the street and work in the tradition of Dorothea Lange and Lewis Hine. My preferred camera is a 1953 Speed Graphic 4x5, on Ilford HP5 film.
I share Frederick Douglass’ belief that photography is truly a democratic art, and of the “moral and social influence of pictures.”
My photographs have been published by the New York Times and since 1973 have been part of the archive at Special Collections, McHenry Library, University of California at Santa Cruz, and the San Francisco Public Library Historical Photograph Collection.
One half (1/2) of my portion from any sale is donated to Blanchet House.
