Crab Creek Quietness
A Pacific Northwest native, I have a deep affinity for the natural world—the beauty,  mystery, and vulnerability of the landscape. My work is heavily influenced by early twentieth century pictorial photographers, with their subtle tonal and tactile aspects, soft focus, often strikingly ambiguous, painterly and poetic, whose expressive aims were to convey a mood of dreaminess to stimulate the imagination. To attain my vision I use a camera with a simple, non-lens optical device that diffracts light, which softens the image and creates a glow, conveying a glint of the numinous. The nudge toward abstraction also helps to tempt the imagination to see beyond the literal.
