Why photograph? To share comfort and joy in the world, to share committing to it, and caring for it. We make photographs many ways. Usually persistent, thoughtful work. Occasionally a quick, joyful catch. My favorite is quiet contemplation, allowing my awareness to sink into the being of a place. Several concepts weave through my bodies of work: Character of Place, Patterns and design found in contemplation, and Human interaction with wildness. I photograph in fascination with the natural world and our awareness and perception of it, to share this through love of light and lens. I have lived and worked in the Columbia-Pacific since 1970, currently residing in Astoria and teaching the photography program at Clatsop Community College.
