John Kay has lived, worked, and exhibited his photographs in Europe for many years and has recently returned to live and work in Washington State. His photo-art subject, exclusively, is torn posters, decals, and other forms of abandoned advertisements that have been mutilated by time, weather, and the hands of man. His works arise out of the tradition of “found art,” and reflect what Marcel Duchamp once called, “a curious extra intention that I am not responsible for, an intention made by the piece itself, what I call a ‘ready-made’ intention.” The emotional force in his work is captured in images of renewed life and transformation returning to the ashes, to the overlooked scraps of paper. He guides our eye to what we have been conditioned to overlook and transforms it into art. This is his honey. Webpage: www.pbase.com/jakay
