PDX 30 - 2017

Juror: Joni Kabana ••• Juror’s Statement ••• Regrets. How often have we wished to travel back in time, undo something, take back our words, acted upon something in an alternative way? I extracted this one word from my juror’s statement and used it as an overriding filter for jurying this show. In addition, I thought about how we “return” in life: from the churning over our inevitable waywardness to sentimentality over a lost item or loved one to how nature makes us feel whole again with less weight on transgressions. It was an honor to be able to peruse the beautiful entries, and I wish I could have expanded the show to include other images. Choosing thirty images left me with regrets of my own, and in the quiet solace of my office, I often return to look at all entries again, viewing each image through a surrogate lens. Such is life. ~ Joni Kabana ************************************** In recognition of Portland Photo Month, April 2017, this group exhibit celebrates LightBox Photographic Gallery’s appreciation of the Portland Photographic Community for the 6th year. We were looking for work that exhibits the unique vision and creativity of the photographer. One image each from 30 photographers was chosen to be in the exhibit.
